New Bocas Quarantine Update!

Hats off to the Panama President,Laurentino “Nito” Cortizo and the Panamanian government who has done a good job in keeping the virus count very low in the Bocas Del Toro archipelago. By enforcing the rules with no one in and no one out, and the wearing of masks and social distancing ,the area has stayed safer. Also kudos to the  local people that have followed the quarantine rules. As of June 1, as long as you wear a mask, you can go move around most all places. A daily curfew is in effect from 6 AM until 7 PM, Restaurants can now open for takeout only.

When we do open back up fully, it will be governments position to let tourist and future ex-pats know that the government understands how important tourism and resident programs are and truly wants all visitors to know they have their safety in mind… as proven ! At this point the government is hoping for an August 22 reopening at Tocumen  International Airport (PTY).

As of today, surfers can surf, hardware stores, bicycle shops, grocery stores ,pharmacies and gas stations and essential businesses are open. Every ex-pat and local here looks forward to when the watering holes and restaurants start hopefully opening soon,

Besides most folks here have had to eat their own cooking for way too long! I don’t expect many new chefs to emerge from this experience. There is just so much you can do with peanut butter, hot dogs and popcorn! Personally I’m salivating for that all time island staple, fried chicken, from the nice lady with my favorite Caribbean roadside food cart…
